Morbidly Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 40. This corresponds to being approximately 100 pounds above ideal weight. BMI is calculated based on weight and height (see BMI calculator).
Such degree of obesity is associated with many medical complications, such as diabetes, sleep apnea, liver and heart disease. Many such complications can be effectively reversed though weight loss surgery, especially if one acts early and before the organs are permanently damaged.
Our office provides a friendly and comforting environment for patients to discuss and plan their weight loss surgery with Dr. Thodiyil. The experienced office staff will make the preoperative testing process as painless as possible for our patients.
Dr. Thodiyil performs the weight loss surgery at New York Methodist Hospital, recognized as a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery.
